PROJECT 1
Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street
Place identity is constructed on meanings that were shaped through socio-cultural, economic and political factor throughout a particular period of time. Such meanings are often embodied in the physical and non-physical aspects. In the context of traditional streets in a rapidly globalized city like Kuala Lumpur, changes in physical settings through urban developments may pose significant impacts on their established meanings. This project introduces ways of reading the important lexicons of traditional streets through the tangible qualities of architecture and space and the intangible socio-cultural attributes. It enables students to understand the specific contexts that construct the distinctive place identity and socio-cultural meanings of the traditional streets.
Reflection
Through this assignment I have learn a lot of new things. It was the first time I went to site visit physically and I also went with my friend Wilson and Vincent Tan. Through the visit I have learn a lot compared to the site visit using the google map during the online class. I learned a lot on the history and also the details of the building through this assignment and I hope what I have learn can be use in the future.
